When working on writing my kids book I got stumped. Every time I picked it back up I remembered I was stumped and moved on to the next task. I ended up not working on it at all for a week.
My husband took the boy out for a walk to give me some time and when I got to thinking about it I realized I needed another idea to work on. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to work on my book, I just needed something lighter to get my brain going.
I also do the same thing with books. I like taking breaks from a non fiction book with lighter fiction. It helps me want the non fiction more and vice versa.
In my book I was feeling stuck with writing so I haven’t got to any illustration yet. To solve that problem I found a poem to illustrate. No words to write there, just drawing to do. So now when I need a break from drawing I can go back to writing my book.
So if you are feeling stuck, try starting a fresh idea as working break. It works great!
